More Information
My beautiful, love-filled son is 10 and in the 4th grade. He has multiple disorders, but the one that is truly debilitating is his severe anxiety and mood disorder. He also has autism, sensory issues, and ADHD. One of those would be enough for any kid, but together they are just really hard. Lots and lots of invisible but severe disabilities. Because he is so anxious all the time and doesn’t really understand the world because of his autism, his life is pretty small. He can manage going to school but that’s about it. Anything more creates dysregulation and meltdowns. He can’t go anywhere in the evening or play sports or attend events like church or concerts with crowds or noise. He’s so curious about the world and loves to learn and wants to travel, but I’m afraid that is far off for him. He’s beginning to realize that his life is limited. He even feels upset when his more typical sister has playdates because he doesn’t really have friends because he can’t do much outside of school. The most frustrating thing is that he’s such a good person! He wants to be a firefighter or a Coast Guard rescue swimmer when he grows up so he can save people. For now, he wants a friend so badly and I’m hoping that maybe a few people can send letters of friendship to him.

I have a 9 year old son, 3rd grade who would love a pen pal. He’s into video games, YouTube (dan tdm is his favorite), and he loves reading and running around outside. If you think this would be a good match please let me know where we can send a letter!

    Hello!

I am sending so many thoughts and prayers for your family and son. Dr. Daniel Amen is doing incredible work and reversing disorders in young children, I have used his resources, tools and expertise to fight similar issues for my own family members. I don't if looking into this would be helpful for your family but I wanted to pass along the information because finding it helped me and my family so much.

    Hi Norrine,

I'm interested in sending cards/letters to your son. I suffer with anxiety, so I can relate to that very well.

Also, my mom is a fourth grade co-teacher in Idaho and curious if you're open to asking their students to pen-pal or write letters to your son?

Please let me know your address, if so.

    Cheers,
    Erin Downey

Dear friend - I have an 18 year old with autism and know how deeply disarming this can be. He sounds like a great kid with hope and determination. And you are so wise and warm, he is lucky to have you. I do a lot of advocacy in the autism community and one perspective that helped me was to not focus on the labels but celebrate the gifts ...we have brave courageous kids and I believe were given what we could handle. Sharing your story will help others. I love the book “the reason I jump” . I wish you and yours much peace this holiday season. -Karen

Hi, I am a 13 year old kid that found this website with my mother. I also have anxiety along with depression. I would love to write to your son because I can relate to his issues and I know what is like to feel like you have no friends and feel isolated. My mother will contact you through email.

I would love to send him a letter. Also, I’m a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist working for the NHS in the UK. Although I have never worked with children and my experience of working with clients with Autism and ADHD is very limited I would be more than happy to help in any way I can if he would like me to.
