Christmas was always my absolute favorite time of the year. My children and I would start listening to Christmas music (sometimes evening starting at Christmas in July!) but this year is different. Transitioning into being a single parent has been one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done (even though I was mostly a single parent even before I was officially one). I know it’s healthier this way. I know I’m healing and getting stronger but during the holidays - one song, one seeing a couple or family together, pulls me into activation - a deep grief and longing. I am aware of it but it still affects and impacts me in a huge way. Sharing holidays when it’s always been my dream to grow old together .... feels empty, lonely, isolating. I have been a stay at home parent the entire duration which intensifies the feelings in their absence. On one hand, I try to make the most of “the break” on the other hand my heart hurts and is filled with grief and love - longing - it feels hard and complicated. Especially during this season of life without much sunshine or family nearby. I want to ask for support and love and solidarity from you. Someone. Anyone. Who may feel moved to connect. A note. A photo. A reminder that I’m not in this alone. That we belong to each other. Happy Mail
