$80,000 to help in California Wildfires
As devastating fires broke out across California a few days ago, residents were forced to evacuate by the tens of thousands. The Camp Fire in the Sierra Nevada foothills is now the most destructive wildfire in California history — killing 29 people in three days, with more than 200 people unaccounted for. These blazes come a year to the day since a fire-storm broke out across Northern California, decimating communities and killing 44 people. And they come within just weeks of the Thomas Fire, which burned more than 280,000 acres in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. During those times, through Together Rising, you sent $80,000 to those suffering. You gave $15,000 to Direct Relief for the purchase and distribution of respiratory masks, medical kits, inhalers, and other respiratory medication. You also sent $15,000 to the LA County Animal Care Foundation for the rescue and care of displaced animals until they could be reunited with their families. Just last August, you funded the Shasta Community Foundation’s efforts with a $50,000 donation to restore and rebuild the ravaged Northern California region after the devastating Carr Fire (thank you, Megan Rapinoe!).As — once again—our hearts break for our Californian sisters and brothers today, you are sending $50,000 to our friends at Direct Relief for deployment of N-95 masks, inhalers, eye wash and other essential medicines to those suffering from the ravages of the California fires.Thank you for your monthly giving that enables us to act quickly to distribute life-saving funds in times of crisis, and for your support today.Together Rising exists to transform collective heartbreak in effective action. As devastation continues to mount, and firefighters and first responders work courageously, 100% of all donations that we collect for the next 24 hours will also go directly to California fire relief as this crisis unfolds.
