Tina
Before the pandemic started, Tina worked full-time for a busy restaurant. When the restaurant shut down, she had to give up her job as a waitress, which she’d had for ten years. It was her only source of income. Like so many, she was forced to file for unemployment.
The restaurant eventually reopened. Tina returned to work. Things seemed to be looking up, until she contracted COVID despite wearing her mask diligently.
In the months that followed, Tina experienced long-haul COVID. Her arthritis, in particular, became much worse. Her hip pain quickly became so unbearable that she could no longer fulfill the physical requirements of her job. She was forced to give it up, again.
Tina cried—she just wanted to work. With the hope of relieving her pain, she received a hip joint injection. She didn’t see any improvement. Her doctor told her that in order for her to work again, she’d have to have a hip replacement.
Frustratingly, the waitlist for the surgery was six months long at the time. Tina added her name. She moved back in with her mom, who was also experiencing health challenges. She worked side jobs to try to pay her bills.
That’s when we met Tina.
She wrote to us, sharing everything we’ve just shared with you. She just needed a boost to get her to her surgery date. If she could just get her hip replaced, she could get back to work like she longed for.
