We celebrate today’s Supreme Court decision

At Together Rising, we believe that families belong together. We celebrate today’s Supreme Court decision as an overdue affirmation of the importance of keeping Indigenous families together.

Decades-long federal practices of forcibly removing Indigenous children from their families—via adoption, foster care placements, and mandated boarding schools—have inflicted grave harm on Indigenous communities. Less than two years ago, Together Rising invested $250,000 in Indigenous-led support for Indigenous communities after the bodies of hundreds of Indigenous children who were forcibly removed from their families were found at residential boarding school sites in Canada.

We applaud today’s upholding of protections that safeguard against forced removal and prioritize the safety and wellbeing of Indigenous children, families, and communities.
