Eastern PA Trans Equity Project
We at Together Rising believe in the right of all people to not only strive, but to thrive. At the same time, we know that transgender people across the country face levels of discrimination and harassment that limit their access to many of the rights and freedoms essential to building happy, healthy, and fulfilled lives.
We know that transgender people can’t fully thrive when they experience three times the unemployment rate of non-trans people, coupled with reports of discrimination and harassment once hired. We know that transgender people can’t fully thrive when they experience disparate rates of homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty. And, we know that transgender people can’t fully thrive when these hardships are magnified by discrimination if the person is Black or Latine, an immigrant, or disabled.
In response, the Eastern PA Trans Equity Project (EPTEP) has developed Empowerment Programs to help transgender people overcome these challenges so they can lead productive and healthy lives. Serving transgender and gender-diverse Pennsylvanians in a 25-county region across the eastern part of the state, these programs provide such critical services as payments to cover the cost of rent, groceries, trans-affirming medications, car repairs, utility bills, or clothing to transgender people in need. EPTEP also works to address one of the most significant barriers to employment – a legal ID – by providing mentoring, plus financial and procurement assistance with completing legal name changes to align with gender. In most of their service area’s communities, EPTEP is the only trusted resource for transgender people.
Through Together Rising, YOU are investing $10,000 in EPTEP and the services that it provides.
We are deeply grateful for you and the ways your support makes all of this possible.
With love, fury, and relentless hope,
Together Rising
