Shine Bright
Sarah’s favorite shirt reads “Shine Bright” — which is a pretty accurate description of the way she shows up in the world.
At the age of 26, Sarah had already accomplished more than most people dream of in a lifetime, including working in prison systems teaching convicted felons how to read, participating with Alternative Directions Americorps program, and volunteering for the CHIP mentoring program to engage the children of incarcerated parents. For all these amazing efforts, she received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in the State of Maryland for her volunteer work. Along with her community engagement, her friends describe her as having a “magical gift of knowing how to come alongside and support her friends who are moms in ways that we never even knew we needed.”
Now, Sarah is getting her Masters in Social Work so she can continue to change the world. Her friend Lindsey reached out to us to nominate Sarah for our sHEROES Love Flash Mob and let her know that her exceptional work is seen. Our team partnered with Trader Joe’s to put on a surprise lovefest for Sarah, complete with a donated bag of groceries, a $300 Trader Joe’s gift card, and a spa weekend at the Four Seasons so Sarah could take time for herself. Needless to say, she was shocked at the surprise and really felt her community come around her to lift her up.
In order to continue shining bright in the world, sometimes it’s nice to have a little help from our sisters to keep the flame going.
