Alejandra
After Alejandra fled to the United States from her home country of Venezuela to escape terrifying persecution, YOU covered an entire year of living expenses for her through Together Rising.
For six years, Alejandra lived with a friend who sponsored her for a work visa. Throughout that time, she waited and hoped that she would be granted a green card.
Just a few months ago, Alejandra received heartbreaking news: her green card wasn’t coming. In fact, it was never coming—she had been lied to about it being processed.
Alejandra quickly filed for temporary protected status and a work permit. However, it can take up to a full year for those to be granted—if at all.
When Alejandra turned to us here at Together Rising, she was living in a constant state of anxiety. With no green card or work visa, she had virtually no options available to meet her most basic needs, including housing, food, and electricity. She also had no way of knowing how long she’d have to continue to wait—an uncertainty that exacerbated the trauma of already having waited so long.
YOU gave Alejandra room to breathe by sending her a direct grant to cover her living expenses for an entire year—enough to get her through this uncertain time.
“No words can describe the emotion and warmth I felt yesterday. From feeling invisible to being heard and cared for, feeling safe and able to move forward,” said Alejandra.
Thank you for hearing and caring for Alejandra. YOU make it possible for Together Rising to be a place where Alejandra and others who experience heartbreak can turn. As she so beautifully described, we are bringing magic into this world, together. We are creating the world we want to live in, together.
