For many of us, the start of a new year marks the feeling of a fresh start. But Amy’s life was irrevocably changed last January 1st, when she became the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband. After years of emotional abuse and threats, her husband was arrested and they divorced.

Literally overnight, Amy was left to raise her four children, ranging in age from 12-16 years old. The financial and emotional weight of their family rested solely on Amy’s shoulders. She told us the upheaval in finances has been “catastrophic.”

And then as Amy waited for child support payments to be processed, her minivan became unusable after engine issues. She would need a new car, and quickly. Amy relies on her car to transport her kids to three different schools, as well as for her job as a nursing case manager.

Amy wrote to us in her application:

“Without a vehicle, my children will be unable to attend school for the upcoming school year and I will risk losing my job. This position also allows me flexibility to manage a chronic health condition as I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Any lapse in transportation threatens my children’s education as well as my job, a necessity as the sole provider for my family.”

Thanks to YOU, this is where Amy’s story takes a turn. Together Rising was able to grant Amy the funds to buy a new car, alleviating some of the financial burden and securing a path toward a brighter future for her family.

“I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for Together Rising. In the spirit of the season, I am thankful for the positive impact your organization had on my life. Your generous contribution that enabled me to purchase a vehicle was instrumental in rebuilding my life and providing for my children after a domestic violence incident. I am so grateful for your assistance.”
