An Update on Ariel
Remember watching 6-year old Ariel reunite with his family at the airport after being separated for 10 excruciating months? He had been torn apart from his family for so long that, right before they landed, Ariel told Sister he couldn’t “remember what they were like.” She showed him a photo of his mom and dad and sister and he beamed with joy, recognition, and relief. Here they are together, 6 weeks later, riding bikes with their sponsor family as they await the status of their asylum petitions. The story of family separation is heart breaking and long. While we know these families still face many hurdles, and so much trauma to recover from, we are grateful that today, a six-year old boy can hop on a bike and just be a six year old kid. And a family can play outside and just be a family. Together. You can learn more about Ariel’s story on our blog and in the ABC News project called Borderline.Thank you to all of the wonderful sponsor families. Thank you to the warriors partnering in this work: Al Otro Lado, Families Belong Together, Matthew 25/Mateo 25 SoCal, Miles4Migrants, & Border Kindness. Thank you to YOU our donors who transform our collective heartbreak into action.Because of your generous support, we are still supporting Ariel, Jesus and the other families that came to the border on March 2.
