Dr. Sonya Anderson shares how gun violence changed her family’s life forever.
In recognition of June as #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, our Executive Director, Dr. Sonya Anderson, bravely shares her own story of how gun violence changed her family’s life forever.
Every single day in this country, families struggle from the scourge of gun violence. In fact, to date in this country, there have been more mass shootings than days in the year 2023.
And while the conversation and debate about guns may be complicated, one thing is not: we each deserve to live in safe and peaceful communities, comforted by the knowledge that we can come and go without fear of shootings.
Last month when we marked the one-year remembrance of Uvalde, we shared that our team has been working diligently to deploy another round of investments to trusted, boots-on-the-ground organizations focused on gun violence prevention. We are proud to announce that we have invested $100,000 in two amazing organizations:
Cities United offers a unique approach to violence prevention by reimagining public safety and building local and national movements that work with policy makers, community members, and nonprofits to design strategies that create safe, healthy, and hopeful communities.
Youth ALIVE! works to help violently wounded people heal themselves and their community by supporting victims and their families to curb retaliation, and by engaging a cohort of youth leaders to help stem the tide of gun violence.
Through Together Rising, you are investing in these important initiatives that build community, support healing, and promote peace. We are deeply grateful for you.
With love, fury, and relentless hope,
Together Rising
