Grieving the loss of Doaa Al-Masri

2

An important update from our long-standing partner, Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA):

“We are sad and enraged by the news that our friend and colleague Doaa Al-Masri was killed with her family on Thursday night. Doaa was the librarian at the Edward Said Public Library in Gaza. She was a kind and energetic young woman who organized many activities for children and youth at the library including reading groups, classes, and field trips for schools…Just last week, in the midst of intense Israeli attacks, she joined two other volunteers to provide warm clothes to children in northern Gaza. We mourn the loss of Doaa, a loss for MECA, for the many children whose lives she touched, and for Palestine. We will miss her smile and her radiant energy.”

Together Rising has never lost a partner. Just weeks ago, our Together Rising team was on a zoom call with MECA staff and partners regarding our grant in their work to feed and protect the families of Gaza. With MECA — and all the children she spent her life serving — we grieve the tragic loss of Doaa and her family. In the name of the children,in the name of humanity, in the name of Doaa Al-Masri: Ceasefire Now.

We Belong to Each Other,

Together Rising
