We Get To Say YES

Sam and their dog, River

“Can Together Rising please help?”

Because of you, we get to say yes when a brave person reaches out and shares what they’re going through. We get to say yes because of your belief that we are stronger together, made to journey this life sharing both the highs and the lows.

Recently, we got to say YES to Sam.

“I am a 49-year-old, queer, and neurodivergent person. In 2016, I came out as gender fluid and bisexual. I separated and divorced my husband of 21 years in 2018.”

Sam shared that they were on the verge of eviction, recovering from a full autistic shutdown after learning their emotional support dog, River, had cancer.

“I spent all my resources giving her that constant care. I had to put her down on December 13, 2023. Losing River has been devastating for me. As a neurodivergent person who needs to live alone, she was my furry best buddy, source of confidence, and angel who gave me constant unconditional love and protection.

“I am scared of the reality of living out of my car, in the middle of winter. Can Together Rising please help?”

YES.

Because of you, Sam received the support they needed while waiting to start a new job. They have been successful in keeping their apartment and car. They also wanted us to pass along  their “deepest thanks and gratitude for the grant to help me through this difficult time of my life. I miss my dog River every single day, but will adopt another rescue when I feel ready. Thank you again for sending me support at a time when I needed it most.”

Thank you for being why we get to say yes to people like Sam. We can’t do this without YOU.
